Volunteer Opportunities
Thank you for thinking of the LVHS as the place to donate your time. We know that you have endless opportunities to volunteer within the Greater Lehigh Valley area and we are thrilled that you are interested in supporting our organization and the lifesaving work we do.
We care for 3,000+ animals each year and serve 11 municipalities. While we work hard to find adoptable animals their next home, we also focus on progressive programs to help people keep their pets.
With your commitment and assistance, we will work together to make the organization successful in promoting animal welfare, promoting pet retention, providing public education, and giving shelter animals some much needed love and attention!
PLEASE NOTE: Our volunteer orientations fill up very quickly!
all of our dog walking orientations are full for july.

Dog Walking
Calling all dog lovers! Rain or shine (or snow, because we’re tough like that), our pups need their daily strolls. As a dog walking volunteer, you’ll be their hero—giving them exercise, enrichment, and a much-needed break from kennel life. It's tail wags, fresh air, and unconditional love—all in a day's volunteer work. Dog walking volunteers must be 18 years or older and there is a required orientation/tour that is 1.5 hours, which will go over all safety protocols.
Cat Care
Start your day with a purr! Our morning cat care team helps clean kennels, serve breakfast, and make sure every whiskered resident is comfy and content. If you're a fan of peaceful mornings, soft paws, and the occasional sass from a senior tabby, this one's for you. Cat Care volunteers must be 14 years or older. There is a required half hour orientation to go over all safety protocols.
Cat Socialization Squad
Cat Socializing volunteering is offered during our shelter hours of operation. This opportunity encourages volunteers to join our feline friends in 3 cat rooms where they can play and get acquainted with our free-roaming cats. Volunteers must be 14 years or older. There is a required half hour orientation.
Keep Our Shelter Sparkling
Not all heroes wear capes—some wear rubber gloves. Our shelter runs on clean blankets and shiny bowls, and you can help keep it all flowing. By pitching in with laundry and dishes, you’re giving staff more time to focus on enrichment and one-on-one animal care. Bonus: you’ll be everyone’s favorite behind-the-scenes MVP. There is a required orientation that must be scheduled.
