Thank you for helping LVHS this
#GivingTuesday and beyond!

GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of radical generosity to
transform communities and the world.

GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past nine years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

Your donation will go to help hundreds of cats, dogs, and small animals throughout the Lehigh Valley be rescued, recovered, and adopted. We wouldn’t be able to do it without your help!

Beyond Sheltering

The Lehigh Valley Humane Society is more than an animal shelter, more than the “pound” or just a holding space for pets. We go beyond just sheltering animals until they find their new homes. Programs have been painstakingly created to support our community and relieve the burden of uncertainty from pet owners. These stories and happy endings wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of our incredible community and you! You have brought so much joy and love to the pets of the Lehigh Valley with your gift. Thank you!

Apollo

When we launched our Community Vet Clinic, we knew many pet owners faced tough choices due to financial barriers. Our goal has always been to keep pets with the families who love them by alleviating these burdens. In early November, we received a call from Apollo’s mom, overwhelmed by the $10,000 quote she’d been given for her cat’s care. Apollo had suffered a complex fracture in his hind leg, and amputation was necessary due to its severity.

We quickly brought Apollo in for surgery, and the very next day, he was back home. His owners were charged a price they could afford and was significantly less than their original quote. Thanks to our clinic, Apollo's family didn’t have to make an impossible decision, and they were able to focus on what mattered most—having their beloved pet safe and by their side.

Super fly

Part of going beyond sheltering pets is investing in their well being and giving them reprieve from a stressful shelter environment. Every year we encounter dogs that display behavioral issues that are related to being in a shelter. Behaviors like barrier frustration, leash biting, and reactivity are usually a turn off for potential adopters. In the split-second impression, shelter dogs get to make on adopters can be sabotaged by their fear and anxiety. We knew something had to change and that we needed to approach the situation with a fresh perspective. We introduced a behavioral pathway plan to ensure that we could create individualized care and training plans for pets displaying stress-induced behaviors.

Super Fly was a dog that had a very poor impression on adopters and visitors, but made great bonds with staff and volunteers. She spent months in the shelter, spinning and jumping in her kennel. We made her upgraded enrichment, devised a training plan to reduce her stress and consulted our vet to find an avenue to channel Super Fly’s anxiety. After nearly a year in our care, Super Fly went on her very first walk with a potential adopter, and he fell head over heels for her. She lives a great life at home that is stress-free and comfortable.

Shamus

Our staff is committed to providing excellent care and service to our community in any way possible. When our Certified Groomer, Jess, spoke with an elderly client about her pup Shamus, she realized that transportation to regular grooming appointments was an issue to getting Shamus the grooming he needed. Jess immediately jumped in and offered to work with Shamus’ owner to transport her beloved dog to and from his appointments. Shamus is looking and feeling his best after a fresh groom!

RYLO

Life can change in an instant, and for Rylo, it led to an unexpected journey far from home. This sweet dog ended up at our shelter after his family was involved in a car accident while traveling through Pennsylvania. Understandably, they lost track of Rylo and had no idea that he ended up at LVHS. His owners, who live in Florida, were had to travel home and spend the next few hours searching PA shelters for their pet. They finally saw Rylo on our website and contacted us right away!

As soon as they were able, this determined family drove through the night—hundreds of miles—to bring their boy home. The reunion was nothing short of heartwarming, with happy tears, wagging tails, and so much love.

As a community resource, we provided everything they needed for a smooth transition, including new identification, updated microchip registration, and information to help keep their dog safe and secure in the future.

This heartwarming reunion is a testament to the power of a compassionate community and the critical role shelters play—not just in caring for pets but in supporting families through unexpected challenges.

abandoned pets

2024 has been a year like no other. The number of abandoned animals arriving at our shelter has reached staggering levels. Pets are being left tied to our doors overnight or found wandering the streets, confused and scared. Each one is a life deserving of love, care, and a second chance.

At our shelter, we are committed to being a beacon of hope for these animals. We provide a safe space where they can be rehabilitated, nurtured, and prepared to find loving new homes. But this work doesn’t happen without the support of our community.

Every abandoned animal needs medical care, nutritious food, enrichment, and sometimes weeks or months of training to overcome the trauma of being left behind. Your generosity makes it possible for us to say “yes” to every pet in need, no matter how great the challenge.

You can make a difference. With your help, we can continue to be a vital community resource—a place where struggling pet owners can turn for help, and abandoned animals can find a second chance.
